As such, in their ongoing desire to build a formidable and complementary supporting cast around Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo, the Heat could be on the run for a former NBA star who recently became available in the market.
According to Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson, the Heat are poised to be one of the teams that will intrigue DeMar DeRozan.
“There has been no contact yet between DeRozan camp and Heat, per source just now. Miami would be among teams of interest to DeRozan, who is being set free by the Kings,” Jackson wrote on X.
The Sacramento Kings waived DeRozan on Monday, making the six-time NBA All-Star one of the top free agents available.
Last season, he averaged 18.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists for Sacramento while shooting 49.7% from the field.
Even at age 36, DeRozan remains a capable high-scoring guard who could be an ideal offensive spark plug for the Heat to help Giannis and Adebayo.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope to interest Miami Heat?
Beyond DeMar DeRozan, Barry Jackson also sees another elite and highly respected wing linked to the Miami Heat.
Per longtime Heat reporter, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is a name to watch around the Heat’s desire to add more pieces.
“Kentavious Caldwell Pope is another name that Miami has liked in the past and could come up again if he and Grizzlies part ways,” Jackson said on X.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and the Memphis Grizzlies are set to split up, as past reports suggest that both sides are working on a potential trade.
If no trade materializes, he might eventually hit the market as a free agent.
A renowned 3-and-D veteran who helped the 2020 LA Lakers and the 2023 Denver Nuggets’ championship victories, Caldwell-Pope guaranteed himself a $21.6 million salary next season after picking up his 2026-27 player option.
However, his numbers declined considerably, particularly from last year, when he averaged only 8.4 points and shot 31.6% from the three-point range.
