Mayport-based Coast Guard crew saves stranded boaters offshore before storms roll in

The U.S. Coast Guard said the Mayport crew towed in the disabled boat and brought three people to shore before storms came in.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three stranded boaters were brought to shore safely by a Mayport-based U.S. Coast Guard crew Sunday as weather conditions were deteriorating around them, according to officials from the Coast Guard’s Southeast District.

In a social media post, the Coast Guard said the crew based at Coast Guard Station Mayport assisted three people aboard the disabled 22-foot boat two miles off shore near the mouth of the St. Johns River. 

As the boaters were rescued, Coast Guard officials said the crew towed the boat to the Mayport boat ramp as weather conditions around them deteriorated.

No one was hurt in the incident.
