Deputies in Hillsborough County, Florida, pulled over a man for speeding. Field sobriety tests were conducted, but according to the sheriff’s office, the man failed them and was then charged with a DUI. Bodycam footage showed the man blaming “Leg Day” for his abysmal Walk and Turn test performance and claiming that his thighs were “not that strong.”

According to a post shared by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), the incident occurred on Sunday, July 5. At around 3:50 a.m., deputies observed a vehicle going 65 mph in a 45 mph zone.

The law enforcement agents conducted a traffic stop, and thankfully, the driver complied and pulled over at a gas station. The driver was then identified as 38-year-old Carlos Gonzalez.

During the traffic stop, officers conducted field sobriety tests on Gonzalez. Soon, they learned that the man was not supposed to be driving at the time.

Non-Strong Thighs

As shown in the bodycam footage attached above, a smiling Gonzalez can be seen interacting with the HCSO deputies at the scene. There, the deputy explained the Walk and Turn test to him.

“You’re gonna stay just like that until I’m done explaining the exercise. It will not take long,” the deputy said. Meanwhile, Gonzalez seemed as if he was struggling to remain on his two feet, apparently due to some sort of muscular fatigue.

Then, Gonzalez is shown telling the deputy, “I’ll tell you right now: my thighs are not that strong.” The Walk and Turn test only requires individuals to take 9 heel-to-toe steps down a line, turn, and then take another 9 heel-to-toe steps back.

Leg Day To Blame

Even though Gonzalez kept smiling and laughing, the deputy didn’t match his energy. He explained to him that 80-year-olds are able to do the test just fine.

“I still, like… All right, let’s try,” the man said. “I worked Leg Day yesterday.” The deputy responded, “So did I,” and a defeated Gonzalez said, “All right.”

The 38-year-old man then attempted to carry out the test. Even though he claimed he didn’t have leg strength, he managed to remain on one foot with no issues.

Arrested and Charged

That, of course, was not part of the exercise. The heel-to-toe stepping, meanwhile, was a complete disaster, with the man struggling to place his feet on the line and in front of each other.

Gonzalez was immediately placed under arrest. A confused Gonzalez asked why he was being arrested, adding, “I don’t have any DUI.”

He does now, as Gonzalez was charged with driving under the influence. The HCSO said, “If you’re celebrating, make a plan before you drink. It’s not worth it.”
