The New York Yankees will continue their four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at 6:40 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Things have gone awry for the Yankees after a terrific start to the season, culminating in a losing stretch of games that has the Rays securely in first place in the AL East. Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has continued its high-level play on the mound and in the batter’s box. Third baseman Junior Caminero has been the offensive leader, evolving into one of the best hitters in baseball in his third full season.
Aiming to slow down Caminero and co. is New York starter Will Warren. Because of the depth of New York’s rotation, Warren has flown under the radar this season despite producing a 3.73 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP over 17 appearances. Unfortunately, it will take an extraordinary performance from Warren to compensate for the Yankees’ recent lack of offense. With outfielder Aaron Judge and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton both on the injured list, the bats have struggled to resemble a major league attack for the last 15 games or so. A plus matchup awaits them in this game, presenting a solid opportunity to turn things around on Tuesday.
Tampa Bay has not announced a starter for this game, meaning its bullpen will likely be responsible for all nine innings of work. While the Rays have historically fielded an excellent group of relievers, this season’s group has been quite mediocre. The offense will almost certainly have to pick up a fair bit of slack against Warren, a strong possibility, seeing as the Rays have historically hit him quite well. Home field advantage also bodes well for a team that has a record far above .500 when playing at Tropicana Field.

Neither side of the money line looks particularly appealing here. The Yankees have been wildly inconsistent, and betting on a mediocre bullpen to play well for nine innings seems unwise. Instead, the over is the best pick on the board. New York showed signs of life in the series opener, and an easier matchup awaits it here. Meanwhile, Warren has had plenty of trouble with the Rays in his career, a trend that should continue en route to the over hitting.
