TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After a week of early mornings and late nights in Orlando, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Explorers returned home with top finishes from the Florida Sheriffs Explorers Association State Conference and Competition.
The conference and competition was the largest to date, drawing more than 400 Explorers from across Florida. LCSO sent nine Explorers and five advisors to represent the agency.
The Explorers competed through long days that began at 6 a.m. and ended around midnight, earning multiple awards, including first place in the Unknown Trouble Scenario. LCSO also received a perfect score in that scenario, the only Explorer post to do so.
Other results included second place in Crime Scene, third place in Traffic Stops and second place in the Centerfire Shooting Division. Deputy Henzel was named Advisor of the Year for the Panhandle Region.
LCSO thanked its Crime Scene Unit for helping prepare the Explorers during their academy, and also recognized Kristi Gordon and Erin Tupper for providing snacks throughout the week.
