Police said one of the officers saw a glass pipe on the center console of the vehicle. This led to a probable cause search of the vehicle, the DPD said.
Several rolled marijuana cigarettes and three packages of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine were recovered, officials said.
Gillum was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance (a class D felony) and possession of marijuana in the second Degree (a class A misdemeanor), police said. He was booked into the Daphne City Jail and later transported to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility. He was released Friday.
Gillum was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election, narrowly losing to Republican Ron DeSantis in the general election.
