A Hollywood man is facing 22 charges in a DUI crash that killed two passengers in his car and injured five other people on Saturday afternoon in Dania Beach, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
Vladimir Mushenko, 38, was booked into the Main Jail on Sunday on charges including vehicular homicide, DUI causing death and reckless driving causing damage to person or property, among others.
Shortly before 6 p.m., Mushenko was speeding in a white 2020 BMW M8 in the 200 block of East Dania Beach Boulevard when he hit a curb, over-corrected the car and lost control, according to a probable cause affidavit. The BMW slid sideways over a curbed median in the road and traveled into the westbound lanes, where it then collided with the front of a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLS.
Oleksii Maksymov, one of Mushenko’s three passengers, was pronounced dead at the crash scene, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.
A deputy who arrived at the crash site said Mushenko appeared impaired and smelled of alcohol, according to the affidavit.
Mushenko and the two other passengers in his car were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale. The driver of the Mercedes and her four passengers were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the affidavit said.
Another passenger in Mushenko’s car was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Sheriff’s Office identified him Tuesday as Said Akhmedov. The passenger in the BMW who survived was identified as Ruslan Mamontov.
At the hospital, Mushenko had a blood alcohol content of .197%, the affidavit said, above the legal limit of 0.08%.
The State Attorney’s Office is seeking that Mushenko be held in custody while the case is pending. A hearing on the motion is scheduled for next week, court records show.
Mushenko has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
