Staff Report

Former Florida gubernatorial candidate and Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum was arrested in Daphne, Alabama, on July 2.

Police stopped Gillum for erratic driving and discovered methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in his vehicle, leading to charges of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. Gillum was booked into the Baldwin County Jail and was released the next day after posting bond.

The arrest follows a history of legal troubles for Gillum, including a 2022 federal indictment for wire fraud and conspiracy related to his 2018 gubernatorial campaign, for which he was acquitted of lying to the FBI in 2023, and the remaining charges were subsequently dismissed.

Gillum gained national attention in 2020 when he was found in a Miami Beach hotel room where police discovered suspected crystal methamphetamine, though no charges were filed due to insufficient evidence linking him to the drugs.

Gillum narrowly lost the 2018 Florida governor’s race to Ron DeSantis. He is currently the co-host of the podcast Native Land Pod.
