FORT PIERCE – St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies have a suspect in custody from a shooting that occurred July 7 at a home in the 2700 block of Essex Drive, Fort Pierce, according to the sheriff’s office Facebook posting.
At about 3:30 p.m., deputies responded to a home in the 2700 block of Essex Drive following reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
Upon arrival, deputies learned that a man shot another man with a rifle, according to the Facebook posting.
Deputies immediately took the suspect into custody and began providing emergency medical care to the victim until St. Lucie County Fire District personnel arrived, according to the Facebook posting.
The victim was then transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the Facebook posting.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division were processing the scene and conducting interviews as of 5 p.m., July 7 and residents were informed that a significant law enforcement presence would be in the area for the foreseeable future as the investigation continues.
Based on the information available at this time, this appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public, according to the Facebook posting.
