DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA/Gray News) – A former Democratic nominee for Florida governor and mayor of Tallahassee has been arrested on drug charges.
According to the Daphne Police Department, 46-year-old Andrew Demetric Gillum was arrested after officers spotted him driving erratically last Thursday night on U.S. 98.
Police said one of the officers saw a glass pipe in the center console of the vehicle that led to Gillum’s vehicle being searched during a traffic stop.
Several rolled marijuana cigarettes and three packages of a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine were recovered, officials said.
Gillum’s charges include unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana.
The 46-year-old was booked into the Daphne City Jail and later taken to the Baldwin County Correctional Facility.
Gillum was the Democratic nominee in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election, narrowly losing to Republican Ron DeSantis in the general election. He also served as Tallahassee’s mayor from 2014 to 2018.
