TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Leon County judge this week sentenced three men to life in prison for a 2023 home invasion that left a Tallahassee police officer wounded by gunfire.
John’Darious Wright, Rahyim Sanders and Tyrell Guinnie were convicted of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell addressed the case and the sentencing, including remarks Officer Caleb Babb shared during the sentencing hearing.
“I put on my gun and vest and went to work as I would any other day. What I didn’t know is that later that evening I would be fighting for my life,” Babb said.
Revell said the sentencing brought the case to a close “through the careful work of our justice system,” and thanked the State Attorney’s Office, the jury and others involved in the case.
“While justice has been served, the impact of that day will remain with Officer Babb, his family, and every member of the Tallahassee Police Department,” Revell said. He also thanked the community for its support throughout the case and for continuing to support officers “who put on the badge each day, knowing the risks, yet choosing to serve anyway.”
