TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A lightning strike is believed to have sparked a garage fire Monday evening on Coldstream Drive, prompting a quick response from Tallahassee firefighters who contained the flames within minutes.
At about 5:03 p.m. July 7, the Tallahassee Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Coldstream Drive. Crews arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home, with fire extending to the roof. The homeowner was safely outside when firefighters arrived.
Firefighters launched an offensive attack, deploying hose lines and locating the fire in the garage. The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes and contained to the garage, allowing the home to remain habitable.
Primary and secondary searches confirmed no one was inside the residence. No injuries were reported.
Responding units included BC1, BC2, E1, E101, E9, E2, T2, FM1 and DFR1. Tallahassee firefighters were assisted on scene by Leon County EMS.
Fire officials urged residents who suspect their home has been struck by lightning to watch for signs of fire such as smoke, a burning odor or flickering lights. If a fire is suspected, they said to evacuate immediately and call 911.
