LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A Florida woman injured in a 2021 tour bus crash near the Grand Canyon says she still has not returned to work and faces at least one more surgery from injuries sustained in the crash.
Becky Sullivan, of Gainesville, Florida, boarded the tour bus in Las Vegas. She said the bus was about 10 minutes from the West Rim of the Grand Canyon when it ran off the road into the desert, returned to the highway and flipped onto its side.
“When we left the road, it became very, very bumpy,” Sullivan said. “And we were going over the terrain and hitting Joshua trees. And it sort of reminded me of being on a roller coaster ride, but everyone was screaming.”

Victim describes waking after the crash
Sullivan said she lost consciousness after the bus flipped.
“I don’t know how long I’d lost consciousness,” she said. “When I woke up, or when I came to, someone was reaching for me, saying, ‘Grab my hand, I’ll help you out.’ And at that point I had no recognition of what was really going on around me.”
Sullivan said she was bleeding and that a woman seated a few rows away from her had died. She says that the woman was traveling with her husband and son.
Ongoing recovery
Sullivan said she never returned to her job in county government because of her injuries. She said she has had dozens of doctor visits and one surgery, with another surgery still ahead. She said she is now able to travel again and would like to return to finish her trip to the Grand Canyon.
The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office identified the woman who died as a 53-year-old from Indiana. A fire official previously said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash. The bus carried 48 people at the time.
FOX5 reached out to the tour company, but so far has not heard back.
