The Martin County School District is the latest to announce layoffs, but officials say the move is not due to a loss of students.
Superintendent Michael Maine says the 58 cuts are a part of an annual reorganization and 16 administrative positions are being eliminated. 42 of the positions were unfilled teacher vacancies.
It’s expected to save the deistrict nearly $4 million.
Martin County Schools serve roughly 16,000 students.
