TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Waymo, a company rolling out its driverless taxi service in cities across the U.S., announced that its vehicles will soon hit the streets of Tampa without a human behind the wheel.
Waymo began testing their cars in Tampa in December 2025. If you’ve encountered one since then, you may have noticed an employee in the driver’s seat.
The company did not give an exact date for when its fleet will go fully autonomous, but said it would happen “soon.” When Waymo rolls out its service to the general public, riders will be able to hail its vehicles for trips across the company’s service area, 24/7.
In addition to Tampa, Waymo announced that its fleet is going fully autonomous in San Diego, Las Vegas and Denver.
