Key Biscayne K-8 Center and MAST Academy each earned an A in the 2025-26 school grades the Florida Department of Education released this week, while Coral Gables Senior High School slipped from an A to a B after taking the top mark in three of the past four years.

Key Biscayne K-8 Center scored 76% of available points, enough for its 15th consecutive A since 2001, the only interruption coming in 2021, when the state paused grading because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Before that streak, the school posted back-to-back B’s in 1999 and 2000. This year’s scores broke down to an 82 in English language arts achievement, an 83 in math achievement and a 94 in social studies, though science achievement lagged at 62.

MAST Academy turned in the strongest showing of the three local public schools, earning 88% of available points, among the the top marks in Miami-Dade County. The magnet school has held an A almost every year on record, with the lone exception of Bs in 1999 and 2003. This year MAST scored a 93 in English language arts, a 94 in math, a 91 in science, achieved a 98% graduation rate and a perfect 100 in college and career acceleration, which measures students earning credit through AP, IB, dual enrollment or industry certifications.

Coral Gables Senior High earned a B this year after A’s in 2022, 2024 and 2025, with a 62% overall score. Math achievement, at just 43, dragged down a report card that also included a 97% graduation rate and an 88 in college and career acceleration. The school’s grade history shows improvement, as it carried C’s almost every year from 1999 through 2009, climbed into B territory through most of the 2010s, and has bounced between A’s and B’s since 2022. Nearly 63% of its students are classified as economically disadvantaged.

Ranked against all 470 graded schools in Miami-Dade, MAST Academy placed 23rd countywide, Key Biscayne K-8 Center placed 91st and Coral Gables Senior High placed 332nd. Within their own peer groups, Key Biscayne K-8 Center ranked sixth among the county’s 54 schools with “K-8” in their name, MAST Academy ranked fourth among Miami-Dade’s 110 combination schools and Coral Gables Senior High ranked 65th among the county’s 85 high schools.

All three schools fall under Miami-Dade School Board District 6, represented by board chair Mari Tere Rojas.

Countywide, Miami-Dade County Public Schools earned an A for the seventh consecutive year, its seventh since 2018.

Superintendent Dr. Jose Dotres and Board Chair Rojas touted the district’s performance. Dotres called it proof the district can compete with private and charter options amid enrollment declines, saying “we have to compete” and that Miami-Dade offers “the best product.”

Statewide, 76% of Florida’s traditional public schools earned an A or B this year, up from 71% last year and no Miami-Dade district-run school received a D or F for the third consecutive year.
