WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) – Over 90,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled at the Wakulla Correctional Institute last week, according to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
The spill occurred at about 7:30 a.m. July 29 at the Wakulla Corrections located at 110 Melaleuca Drive, per FDEP.
Officials said a lift station in Wakulla was blocked, which caused 95,000 gallons to spill and discharge into a retention pond through storm drains nearby.
Clean-up is currently in progress with Vac trucks and lime, according to the department.
There were reportedly no injuries or fatalities as a result of the spill. The raw sewage did not enter surface waters, per FDEP.
