It’s also planned to have approximately 30,000 fixed seats, with the ability to expand for special events like concerts and conventions. There are also planned expansions to their aquarium.
Meanwhile, at the Rays current home of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, the team has been enjoying great success. Tampa Bay entered Thursday’s series finale with the visiting New York Yankees with a home record of 33-13.
After dropping the opening game of the series to the Yankees, the Rays won back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday to bolster their command over New York in the American League East division to five games.
That included a three-RBI night from Jonathan Aranda on Wednesday night at the Trop in the Rays 3-0 victory over their divisional rivals.
On Thursday afternoon in St. Petersburg, things played out a little differently. After a Junior Caminero solo homerun in the bottom half of the first inning for a 1-0 Tampa Bay lead, the Yankees retaliated in grand fashion with a six-run third inning to blow the game open.
New York went on to win the series finale, 12-4. The teams split the series 2-2, and Tampa Bay enters a weekend home series with the Seattle Mariners with a four-game lead over the Yankees in the American League East.
It’s set to be a special weekend at the ballpark, with Rays legend Evan Longoria in the house to be honored on Saturday and Sunday.
