A man arrested overnight in Orlando is accused of shooting and killing a family dog in its crate, according to police. Miguel Bonilla, 55, faces charges including aggravated animal cruelty causing excessive pain/death; shooting at, within, or into a building; tampering with or fabricating physical evidence; and criminal mischief at or above $1,000, records show. An officer responded around 10 p.m. Wednesday to the 6700 block of Lake Carlisle Boulevard, locating a dead brown dog lying in a cage with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Bonilla’s arrest affidavit. The woman there who first spoke with police said she had just come home from the hospital after one of the family’s dogs bit her six-year-old relative about two hours earlier, the affidavit states. As she was walking one of the dogs outside, she said she saw her uncle — Bonilla — enter the residence, adding she heard a gunshot shortly afterwards. After re-entering the residence, the woman said Bonilla told her “it’s a mess” and to go to her room, as well as that she saw the dog bloodied and limping. After going to her room, the woman said she then heard a second gunshot. “(Bonilla) walked in with a plastic garbage bag, and I thought there might be a gun inside,” the woman told police, according to the affidavit.Another woman who spoke with police told them her brother-in-law had called her “crying on the phone and (saying) he killed him. He put two in him.” When police made contact with Bonilla at a different address, on Biscotti Avenue, he allegedly said that he shot the dog and that he had discarded the bag, casings, and firearm. However, Bonilla would not disclose from whom he obtained the firearm or to whom he potentially gave it back to, police said. Further, the homeowner of the Lake Carlisle Boulevard address provided surveillance footage to police showing a male carrying a white bag over his left hand, walking to the cage, pointing the bag at it, and firing two shots. Bonilla was booked early Thursday and was being held on no bond at the Orange County jail at the time of this writing.
