St. Petersburg, FL – A flight instructor and student safely landed a small aircraft at St. Pete Clearwater International Airport on Thursday after declaring an in flight emergency, prompting a rapid response from airport emergency crews.
According to airport officials, the aircraft experienced a problem while in the air, leading the pilot to request an emergency landing.
Air traffic controllers coordinated with the flight crew while firefighters, law enforcement officers and emergency personnel positioned themselves along the runway in preparation for the aircraft’s arrival.
The plane landed safely without incident, and emergency vehicles immediately surrounded the aircraft as a precaution.
First responders inspected the aircraft after it came to a stop before the flight instructor and student exited safely.
Officials confirmed neither occupant was injured during the incident, and no injuries were reported on the ground.
Authorities also said there were no reports of fire, smoke or fuel leaks following the landing.
The aircraft remained on the runway for a short time while emergency crews completed safety checks and assessed the situation.
Airport operations experienced only limited disruptions as crews worked to clear the aircraft and reopen the affected area.
