The U.S. Department of Justice is planning to seek the death penalty against one of the suspects in a drug ring and carjacking that led to a woman’s death in 2024.
Jordanish Torres-Garcia is facing several charges, including carjacking resulting in death, and kidnapping resulting in death.

In April 2024, a bystander shot video as a gunman carjacked Katherine Aguasvivas near Winter Springs. Her body was later found inside a burning vehicle in Osceola County.
The subsequent investigation into her death led to a drug ring, according to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators believe Aguasvivas came to Seminole County from South Florida to pick up some $170,000, which were proceeds from illicit drug trafficking.
However, investigators believe four men, including the one who was supposed to give her the money, conspired to rob her later on.

Investigators believe Jordanish Torres-Garcia was the man who held Aguasvivas at gunpoint during the carjacking.
According to the Notice of Intention to Seek the Death Penalty, federal prosecutors also believe Torres-Garcia “intentionally killed” Aguasvivas.

Prosecutors also filed notice of their intention not to seek the death penalty against two other suspects in the case: Giovany Crespo Hernandez, and Dereck Rodriguez Bonilla.
Investigators say Crespo Hernandez planned the carjacking and robbery to get the $170,000 back from Aguasvivas.
Investigators believe Rodriguez Bonilla recruited Torres-Garcia to help with the carjacking and provided the gun.
Both have been indicted for carjacking resulting in death and kidnapping resulting in death.
