Cape Coral mother and daughter start new chapter with mobile bookstore
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Melissa McClellan and her daughter, Madi, share more than just DNA.
“She doesn’t think she’s my favorite, but she is,” said Melissa McClellan.
They share a friendship, and as their matching shirts that read “she’s my favorite coworker” and “I’m literally her only coworker” suggest, they share an office, too.
Last summer, Melissa saw a video of a mobile bookstore and knew it was something she wanted to create with her daughter.
“I immediately texted her a picture or sent her that TikTok and said, we should do this,” Melissa said.
Madi gave her mom a yes shortly after.
“Oh, it was like, 30 seconds,” Madi said.
Last July, the family went building and book gathering.
“I had a home library at my old house, and then I moved into a studio apartment, so I could not take all 300 books,” Madi said. “So, we started with that.”
In November, “M&M’s Wheely Good Reads” opened to the public. It’s gained more traction than the mother-daughter duo expected.
“People will just come in here and be like, can I live here?” Madi said.
For these two, it’s not about how many books they sell. It’s about starting a new chapter that brings them even closer together.
“I love spending time with her. As we get older, she’s so busy with her work, and she has a boyfriend, so I try to book as many events as possible to force her to spend time with me,” Melissa said.
