UNION COUNTY, Fla. — A former captain at a state prison in Starke is facing domestic battery and false imprisonment charges for hitting a woman, trying to strangle her and forcing several children to hide in the woods according to an arrest report.
According to his arrest report, Randall Smith, 37, and a woman began arguing after the woman found messages Smith was sending to a co-worker.
During the argument, detectives said Smith banged the woman’s head against the side of a vehicle, then placed his hands around her neck.
After the fight, deputies say Smith forced at least six children to “go hide in the woods and stay quiet.” The children were seen coming out of the woods when they arrived on scene.
Smith was fired from his job at the Florida State Prison following the arrest.
