GULF BREEZE, Fla. (WALA) -The Midway Fire District reported on its Facebook page Saturday morning that a lightning strike charred a wall in Midway home during morning thunderstorm
According to the post: a strong thunderstorm brought Midway Fire District crews to a home on Soundside Drive Friday morning after lightning struck the residence, leaving smoke and charring inside an exterior wall.
Midway Engine 37 was dispatched at 7:33 a.m. July 11, 2026 to the 5100 block of Soundside Drive for a reported lightning strike.
The caller reported no visible flames, but said there was a smell of smoke inside the home.
Firefighters arrived and confirmed evidence of a lightning strike, including smoke and charring in an exterior wall, according to the fire district. As a precaution, Engine 35 and Battalion 35 were also dispatched.
Crews checked for hidden fire spread by accessing the area beneath a stairwell. To limit additional damage, firefighters made entry through a hall closet rather than opening up the stairwell, then cut a small inspection opening to verify the fire had not extended into the second floor.
After confirming there was no further fire extension, crews cleared the scene at 9:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.
