A search is underway after a man disappeared while swimming in the ocean Saturday afternoon at Huguenot Park, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO said patrol officers responded to the park along Heckscher Drive around 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a drowning.

According to investigators, three adults were swimming in the ocean when they began struggling against an undertow.

Bystanders were able to rescue two of the swimmers, but the third swimmer, a man, went underwater and did not resurface, JSO said.

“The U.S. Coast Guard and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Dive Team, Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded and are actively conducting search and investigative efforts,” JSO said in a release Sunday morning.
