FSU pitcher Trey Beard has been drafted by the Miami Marlins with the No. 147 overall pick in the 2026 MLB draft. He is FSU’s first draft pick of Sunday and the fourth overall.
Beard, an FAU transfer, served as FSU’s No. 2 starter in his only season with the Seminoles. The lefty went 6-1 with a 3.59 ERA in 77 2/3 innings. He held opponents to a .218 batting average, allowing 38 runs on 62 hits and 26 walks, striking out 123 batters.
He was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week on March 16 after he threw 6 1/3 shutout innings against Wake Forest. He allowed just one hit and one walk, striking out a career-high 14 batters.
Beard had arguably his best performance of the season in his final outing of the season. After a rain delay knocked Wes Mendes out of FSU’s do-or-die game against Coastal Carolina, Beard did not allow a run over the final four innings, with FSU winning 2-1. He struckout nine batters and allowed just one hit.
The Dunedin, Florida native spent the first two years of his career with the FAU Owls and was one of the top pitchers in the transfer portal when he signed with FSU. He made the All-ACC First Team as a sophomore after going 7-1 with a 3.14 ERA in 86 innings, striking out 118 batters and walking 32.
Beard is the second FSU pitcher taken already, joining Wes Mendes.
