TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Dozens of people spent part of their weekend exploring downtown Tallahassee on foot as a new community group led a hike.
Urban Hikers Tallahassee led more than 60 residents on a 4.3-mile walk through the capital city, highlighting local landmarks while offering an alternative to traditional nature trails.
Co-founder Monte Jackson said it was an opportunity for the community to see more of the capital city.
“Just to give people a different scenery around Tallahassee instead of walking the same areas over and over,” Jackson said. “You get to see different parts people may have never walked before.”
The group’s co-founders said they created the organization to promote physical activity, support mental well-being and build community through shared outdoor experiences.

Founder Patrick Denson said it was a diverse group.
“Everybody comes together, you’re networking, you’re talking, and we got different people from all walks of life,” Denson said.
Tavion Moore, who also helped launch the group, said they hope participants enjoy both the health benefits and the social aspect of the hikes.
“We look forward to good health, exercise, and cardio,” Moore said. “Instead of being in the gym, you got the scenery as well as networking and having a good time outside.”
Organizers plan to host one hike each month in different parts of Tallahassee, to encourage residents to stay active, connect with others and discover more of their community.
