JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville suspended its search Sunday for a swimmer last seen near Huguenot Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said patrol officers responded to the park along Heckscher Drive around 4:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a possible drowning.
According to investigators, three adults were swimming in the ocean when they began struggling against an undertow. Bystanders were able to rescue two of the swimmers, but the third swimmer, a man, went underwater and did not resurface, JSO said.

The Coast Guard said the swimmer was reportedly last seen wearing pink shorts and clinging to a red buoy before going under the water.
“Search crews from Coast Guard Station Mayport, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission searched approximately 3 square miles, saturating the area of the swimmer’s last known location,” the Coast Guard said Sunday afternoon.
The agency suspended the search Sunday morning pending new information. JSO is leading the investigation.
