Ryan McKenzie, an 11-year-old who struggles with heart disease, had his wish to be a pilot come true recently during an extended visit to Miami International Airport.
The Lauderhill resident and his family arrived in a chauffeur-driven limousine for a private VIP tour of the concourse and hangars, with the newest “wish kid” wearing a uniform, spending time in the cockpit, on the runway, in the control tower, and training on a simulator used by pilots to prepare for flights.
Ryan, who is almost entirely non-verbal, always has loved aviation, with “airplane” being the only word he has ever verbalized. His smile throughout the experience was evidence of its impact, as were the kisses he planted on the cheeks of all his new friends at FEAM Aero and Atlas Air, the organizations that hosted Ryan and his family.
