Tampa, FL – Tampa has dropped significantly in Allstate’s latest national ranking of driving safety, falling 19 positions from last year in the insurance company’s annual America’s Best Drivers Report.
The 2026 report ranks Tampa 87th among the 200 largest cities in the United States based on the average time between vehicle collisions.
According to the study, drivers in Tampa are involved in a crash once every 9.59 years on average, a metric used to compare collision frequency across major metropolitan areas.
Allstate compiles the report using its auto insurance claims data to evaluate driving patterns and crash rates in cities nationwide.
The rankings are intended to measure how often drivers are involved in collisions while highlighting differences in driving conditions and behaviors from one community to another.
The findings also provide insight into factors that can influence insurance claims and the overall cost of vehicle ownership.
Although Tampa experienced one of the largest declines in this year’s rankings, the city remains in the top half of the 200 metropolitan areas included in the report.
Brownsville, Texas, retained the top position for the second consecutive year, earning recognition as the city with the safest drivers. According to the report, motorists in Brownsville go nearly 15 years between collisions on average.
Boston ranked last in the study for the second straight year.
Drivers there average one collision every 3.76 years, making it the city with the highest crash frequency among those analyzed.
Allstate publishes the America’s Best Drivers Report annually to compare collision trends and driving safety across the nation’s largest cities.
