FLORIDA – A New Jersey man has received a federal prison sentence after admitting to a robbery involving a Tampa postal worker and stolen mail access equipment.
Federal prosecutors announced Thursday that Tajmir Wyles, 32, was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to charges related to the robbery of a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier and the possession of stolen government property.
The incident occurred on May 15, 2023, when a postal carrier was delivering mail at a community mailbox area inside the Whittier Center shopping complex on East Busch Boulevard in Tampa, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.
Prosecutors said Wyles allegedly approached the mail carrier and took the carrier’s postal master keys following a physical confrontation.
Authorities said Wyles allegedly fled the area with the keys after the encounter.
Wyles was arrested in Dallas, Texas, in July 2023. Investigators said he was found in possession of a binder containing 120 checks connected to multiple individuals.
Officials reported that many of the checks had been reported stolen from the Tampa Bay region after the May 2023 robbery.
Authorities also said the stolen postal master keys were recovered.
Wyles entered a guilty plea on December 4th, 2025, to charges of robbery of a postal employee and receiving, possessing or concealing stolen property belonging to the United States.
The federal sentence will be served consecutively with an eight-year Texas state prison sentence related to separate charges involving obstruction, possession of a controlled substance and fraudulent possession of identification information involving at least 50 individuals.
