Cape Coral police, Lee County deputies dig, sift through dirt at active scene off Kismet Parkway

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Crews with the Cape Coral Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office are at the scene of an active investigation off Kismet Parkway near Northeast 19th Avenue in Cape Coral.

Crews can be seen digging and sifting through dirt at the scene, with multiple Lee County Sheriff’s Office crime scene and forensic units present, according to Gulf Coast News reporter Mercedes Martinez, who is at the scene.

Martinez reports seeing excavators remove trees and dig at the site. She also reported seeing crews collect an unidentified object and place it in a red biohazard bag.

Crews have been on the scene for hours and continue to dig and sift through sand and dirt.

CCPD confirmed they are working on an ongoing investigation with the assistance of LCSO in the area.
