Family remembers boy, 2, killed on Florida vacation as ‘sweet child’

A 2-year-old boy who was accidentally shot and killed by a 4-year-old relative while his family celebrated his birthday in Central Florida has been identified as Brayden Tennyson.The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened Sunday inside a vehicle on Scrapbook Street in Kissimmee. Investigators said the 4-year-old found an unsecured handgun lying out in the car belonging to Brayden’s mother and accidentally fired it, striking the toddler.According to deputies, the adults had stepped away from the vehicle to check into a rental property, leaving the two children inside.Family members said they had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, to the Cove East at Storey Lake rental community to celebrate Brayden’s birthday. ‘His birthday is today’His aunt, Dalfornia Tennyson, said Brayden’s birthday was supposed to be Tuesday.He would have been 3. “His birthday is today,” Tennyson said. “Brayden was 2 years old. He was a real sweet child. Real friendly.”She remembered her nephew as a happy child who loved snacks, especially gummy fruit snacks and cookies.”He would go up to kids and want to play,” she said. “He used to say, ‘Auntie, I want snack!’ He loved those gummy snacks in the pack.”Brayden’s sister also shared memories of the toddler in a statement.”His little butt was very smart & he just was a very happy baby. I remember we used to come from school & he used to be waiting on us at the door screaming because he was happy to see us. He always loved eating all my food. He was just learning how to say my name & learning how to go to the bathroom by himself. I hate this happened to him,” the statement said.The family is now grieving the loss of the young boy.”We love him and we’re gonna miss him,” Tennyson said.She said her faith has become the family’s source of strength.”That’s the only thing we have to lean on is God,” she said.Loved ones planned a balloon release for Brayden in Georgia on Monday in his memory.The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said charges could be coming. The State Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case. They said this is an active and ongoing investigation. Brayden’s mom owned the gun.
