Tire tracks left behind in grass at new Tropicana Park in Cape Coral
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Cape Coral neighbors discovered tire tracks over the weekend at Tropicana Park, where a driver appeared to have done donuts, damaging the grass in the newly opened park.
“They put this for you to enjoy it, not to destroy it,” said Josephine Conigliaro, a Cape Coral resident, after seeing the damage.
Park regulars said the grass was torn up, and skid marks were also visible near the park’s entrance.
“I remember when I was a teenager, I did some things that may not have been great, but usually we find places to go to to do that kind of stuff, not necessarily in an open community park,” said Marc Weimann, another Cape Coral resident.
City workers visited the park on Monday to assess the damage.
“Unfortunately, they probably got to come up with something like maybe a camera that they could keep an eye on it and see who’s doing things like that,” Conigliaro said.
A city spokesperson said crews will repair the grass as part of ongoing maintenance. They also urged residents to report any suspicious activity to both the city and Cape Coral police.
