PORT ST. LUCIE – A 23-year-old woman died after apparently jumping from a pickup on Interstate 95 over the weekend as she and her boyfriend argued after leaving a Halloween celebration, according to Port St. Lucie Police.

Police and the Florida Highway Patrol about 1:05 a.m. Nov. 1 went to I-95 in the area of Gatlin Boulevard following a report of a body in the roadway, Sgt. Dominick Mesiti, police spokesperson, said Nov. 3.

Mesiti said a preliminary investigation revealed a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Harrison Earl, 24, of Port Saint Lucie, traveled north on I-95 with front seat passenger Taylor Joan Robert, 23, also of Port St. Lucie.

“They were both returning from a Halloween celebration in West Palm Beach when they began to argue,” Mesiti said. “During the argument, Robert was on her phone, speaking with a friend, and told the friend she was going to jump from the pickup truck.”

Mesiti said moments later the phone went dead and investigators believe Robert jumped from the pickup, sustaining fatal injuries. There are no indications Robert was struck by a vehicle, Mesiti said.

Police believe the pickup was traveling about the posted speed limit of 70 mph at the time.

Mesiti said Earl pulled over, stayed at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.

He said a number of aspects of the incident remain under investigation.

No arrests were made at the scene.

Mesiti said Robert and Earl were in a relationship, but not married.

“We did speak to the friend … that she was on the phone with, and that friend confirmed there was an argument, they were basically having a domestic inside the car, and she made the statement she was going to jump from the vehicle and then the phone went dead,” Mesiti said.
