Ron DeSantis to Florida State Prison Warden Randall Polk states that 68-year-old Duckett’s execution has been set for noon on July 28, just hours before Occhicone, 80, had already been scheduled to be executed. The schedule was confirmed by WESH 2 News in the hours following the execution of Dennis Sochor, 74, who was convicted of killing 18-year-old Patricia Gifford on Jan. 1, 1982, shortly after meeting her at a New Year’s Eve party. Sochor became the oldest person executed in Florida, pronounced dead at 6:16 p.m. Tuesday after a three-drug injection at the prison. WESH 2 reported the week prior that the stay of execution for Duckett had been lifted. The former Mascotte police officer has been on death row since 1987 after being convicted of raping and killing 11-year-old Teresa McAbee. Occhicone was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in 1986 over the killings of his former fiancée’s parents in their holiday home in Pasco County. He’s scheduled to be executed at 6 p.m. on July 28. If and when Occhicone is executed, he would become the second oldest prisoner put to death in modern U.S. history following the 2018 execution of 83-year-old Walter Moody Jr. in Alabama over the killing of a federal judge and a Black civil rights attorney during a wave of Southern mail bombs in 1989.
