Orlando replacing parking meters with digital payment system

Orlando is eliminating parking meters and transitioning to a digital parking system. The city will use the ParkMobile app, which allows drivers to pay for parking on their phones, set exact durations and receive alerts when time is running out. Starting this week, the city is launching the first phase of its parking modernization plan, beginning with the removal of parking meters. While the app is already in use in some areas, it will soon become the only way to pay for parking. The first area to see the change will be SODO and the Orlando Health vicinity. Next, the rollout will expand to the South Eola neighborhood, east of Rosalind Avenue and south of Central Boulevard. Finally, the remaining downtown meters will be removed in areas between Colonial Drive and Anderson Street, as well as Garland Avenue and Rosalind Avenue. During the phased rollout, some parking meters will remain in place while new signs are installed. Starting Oct. 1, updated parking hours, new pricing and enforcement measures will take effect.
