A Miami man has been arrested for leaving the scene of a crash last month that left a scooter rider dead, authorities said.
Tyquane Ramses Hankerson, 19, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, the crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. on June 8 in the area of 90th Street and Northwest 17th Avenue.
Hankerson was driving a Tesla Model 3 when he struck the victim and scooter from behind. The victim, whose identity wasn’t released, was later pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the report, Hankerson got out, checked on the victim and called 911, then returned to the Tesla and fled on foot with two other people.
Hankerson later returned to the scene with his family, the report said.
Hankerson told investigators he was a passenger in the Tesla at the time of the crash but a camera from a nearby home “clearly captured the defendant, exiting the driver’s side of his vehicle and run towards the victim,” the report said.
Police said he later gave a full confession.
Hankerson appeared before a judge on Wednesday, where a public defender asked for pre-trial release and his parents also pleaded for his release.
He was given house arrest with a GPS monitor or an alternate bond of $5,000.
