Ybor City arts nonprofit Tempus Projects’ latest exhibit is an ode to the city that shaped its artists.

A press release says that in “Oh, Cuore Mia” (“my heart”)—opening tomorrow during Third Thursday at Kress Contemporary and running through Sept. 17—artists “reflect on and reinterpret Ybor narratives shaped by migration, labor, resistance, and reinvention in this group exhibition curated by Tempus Projects, with guest juror Jenn Ryann Miller.”

While promoting the show with photographer Dave Decker on WMNF’s Art In Your Ear last week, Tempus Projects founder and creative director Tracy Midula emphasized that the show is less about nostalgia and more about how Ybor City’s history and cultural aesthetics influenced local artists.

The show features artwork—photography, video, poetry, screenprinting and more—and vintage ephemera from more than 20 local artists including Decker and Midula. One of those works is a vertical documentary on the sunset of Crowbar. The film, “Sacred Space,” was created by Tampa filmmakers Tyler Riggs and Aaron Hurley, for their production company Lofty, along with Decker. Riggs’ “God’s Waiting Room” took home awards at Tribeca Film Festival in 2021.

There is no cover for ‘Oh, Cuore Mia’ artists’ reception on Thursday, July 16 in Ybor City.
