A Lauderhill man who was arrested two weeks ago in the stabbing deaths of two men is now facing a third murder charge after the death of a newly discovered alleged victim of the same attack, police said.
Gregory Dasilva, 26, was arrested June 30 after Lauderhill Police received three separate reports of attacks near the 1700 block of Northwest 55th Avenue within 20 minutes earlier that day: One from a man who flagged down an officer and said he was just attacked by a man with a knife, one 911 call about a man who was found in an apartment with stab wounds and one witness who flagged down another officer after finding a man lying in a pool of blood in the neighborhood, according to a probable cause affidavit.
On July 5, detectives found another man who they believe was also attacked on June 30 and had died from his injuries that day, Lauderhill Police announced Wednesday night. He was identified as Jeffrey Bernard Standifer, 51.
Officers learned of Standifer on July 5 after a relative found him dead in his home, the police department said in a news release, and investigators determined his death was suspicious.
“At the time of the June 30 investigation, detectives were not aware of Mr. Standifer or his injuries,” Lt. Antonio Gonzalez, a spokesman for Lauderhill Police, said in an email to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. “His involvement was not discovered until the separate death investigation began on July 5.”
The police department identified the two men who died on June 30 as Mesilien Pierre, 36, and Wilford White, 68.
Information about any connection or relationship between the alleged victims and Dasilva has not been released. Gonzalez previously said detectives did not know of any connection.
Dasilva was initially facing two counts of premeditated murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill.
The case was presented to the Broward County grand jury, and an indictment was filed Wednesday, court records show. He now faces three counts of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and attempted first-degree felony murder with a deadly weapon, according to the indictment.
Dasilva remains in the Main Jail. He has not yet entered a plea to the charges.
