Cape Coral Police arrest three teen suspects connected to overnight vehicle burglaries
CAPE CORAL, Fla. —
Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department arrested three juvenile suspects they say were involved in a string of vehicle burglaries Monday morning.
CCPD says that at around 2:51 a.m. they responded to a call regarding vehicle break-ins. Officers found two suspects hiding in nearby bushes and a third suspect was found hiding behind parked vehicles.
After their arrest, CCPD concluded these individuals were “car hopping,” by targeting unlocked vehicles to steal cash and other valuable items. Four vehicles were burglarized overnight.
Officers recovered several high-value stolen items, including:
A white-gold diamond ring, valued at $1,000Multiple vehicle key fobs and key ringsA pair of Ray-Ban designer sunglasses
The three suspects, two aged 15 and one aged 17, were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center in Fort Myers.
The suspects face the following charges:
Three counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied ConveyanceOne count of Grand Theft ($750 or more, but less than $5,000)One count of second degree Petit Theft
These individuals may face more charges, as additional reports come in to CCPD.
CCPD said this arrest adds onto the trend of declining vehicle burglaries across the city. Vehicle burglaries have seen a decline since this time last year:
In 2025: From June 1 to July 31, the department saw 95 total incidentsIn 2026: From June 1 to July 14, the department saw 35 total incidents
CCPD attributes this reduction to the initiatives from the Community Services Bureau, which has been conducting strict juvenile and curfew compliance checks.
As a reminder, CCPD asks residents to help their efforts by locking vehicle doors, removing valuables from sight and never leaving spare keys or fobs inside vehicles.
