MARATHON, Fla. (CBS12) — A 37-year-old Marathon man was killed Monday in a gruesome workplace accident at an industrial site in the Florida Keys.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies responded to 4250 Overseas Highway in Marathon at approximately 11:22 a.m. July 14 following a report of a work-related death.
The victim was identified as Victor Vivian Cano Franco, 37, of Marathon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, the accident occurred at a facility where rock is crushed into smaller pieces for industrial use. Investigators said Cano Franco appeared to have been struck by a front-end loader.
The MCSO said in a statement:
The victim was struck in the mid-section and his body was severed as a result.”
Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Authorities said foul play is not believed to be a factor.

An autopsy is pending, according to MCSO.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, was notified of the incident and is expected to conduct its own investigation into the workplace fatality.
No further details about the events leading up to the accident were immediately released.
