ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office recognized 29 inmates who completed educational, vocational, substance abuse and faith-based programs during a graduation ceremony.

The sheriff’s office says the programs are made to give inmates the tools, knowledge and support needed to make a life changes, reduce recidivism and prepare for a successful return to the community.

The graduations recognized were from the following programs:

IN2WORK Program (Aramark): Six graduates completed job training in food service, retail and warehouse operations.Journey Forward Program: Eleven graduates completed the Public Defender’s Office program focused on drug and alcohol recovery.Spiritual Learning Program: Six graduates completed the faith-based program led by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain and Programs Office.High School Diploma Program: Six graduates earned their high school diplomas through the St. Lucie County School District under the direction of Dale Cassens.

“Our responsibility doesn’t end with incarceration, it includes providing opportunities for change,” said Sheriff Richard Del Toro. “These men and women made the decision to invest in themselves, and we are proud to recognize their commitment to making positive changes that can benefit both their futures and our community.
