Sunrise, FL – A retail theft investigation at a Sam’s Club in Sunrise has resulted in the arrest of two people after authorities alleged they participated in a scheme that led to more than $58,000 in stolen merchandise over several months.
According to Sunrise Police, the investigation began after store officials noticed ongoing inventory shortages involving high value items, including televisions and other electronics.
Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, purchase records, and store transactions to determine how merchandise was leaving the store without being paid for.
Investigators allege one suspect worked as a receipt checker at the store’s exit and intentionally allowed another suspect to leave with unpaid merchandise without properly inspecting shopping carts or verifying receipts.
Authorities said the alleged scheme occurred repeatedly over approximately six months.
Police said surveillance footage and transaction records identified 46 separate incidents connected to the investigation.
In one example included in the arrest report, investigators allege a suspect paid for a low cost television wall mount while leaving the store with two Samsung televisions that had not been purchased.
Detectives said similar incidents involving electronics and other merchandise contributed to total losses exceeding $58,000.
Both suspects were arrested on charges that include grand theft and organized scheme to defraud.
\Investigators continue to examine the case to determine whether any additional incidents or individuals may be connected to the alleged operation.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
