Three people have been arrested in connection with an alleged scheme to cheat on the Florida driver license knowledge exam at a Miami-Dade County Tax Collector’s office, officials said.
The arrests followed an investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) Public Corruption Unit into fraudulent activity outside the Midway Crossings office. Detectives allege Karel Clavel-Beltran used strategically placed cameras and electronic earpieces to feed answers to Miguel Nuñez-Garcia and Alexis Fernandez while they took the computer-based exam.
Nuñez-Garcia and Fernandez face charges related to cheating on the exam, while Clavel-Beltran is accused of facilitating the scheme, according to the Miami-Dade County Office of the Tax Collector.
“Obtaining a Florida driver license is a privilege, not a right,” Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez said. “When individuals attempt to cheat the testing process, they undermine the integrity of the system and put public safety at risk.”
The investigation was conducted in coordination with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
