Port St. Lucie police arrest two drivers for DUI in separate incidents

Port St. Lucie police are addressing concerns about speeding, reckless driving and impaired driving with a renewed focus on traffic enforcement. Police Chief Leo Niemczyk said the department is committed to tackling these issues. “We’re meeting the call; we’re doing everything we can with the size of the organization that we are, and we will continue to invest with our traffic enforcement, and we’ll continue to provide at a higher level,” Niemczyk said. Investigators said 25-year-old Kyle Mallette was arrested for DUI after officers observed him weaving between lanes after leaving a local establishment. Police reported that Mallette later provided a breath sample of 0.120, exceeding the legal limit of 0.08.In a separate incident, officers responded to a crash involving 24-year-old Kaitlyn Allmond, who police said struck a city median and showed signs of impairment. Investigators said Allmond provided a breath sample of 0.232, nearly three times the legal limit. She was also arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer after allegedly making physical contact with an officer. So far this year, Port St. Lucie traffic investigators have made 188 suspected DUI arrests. “It’s all relative, right, so it’s more than the year prior, but we’re working harder at it, and we’re putting more effort into it, so I expect to see more arrests,” Niemczyk said. “I know they’re out there; it’s just a matter of putting out the manpower and labor and going out to find them.” The chief expressed gratitude that both recent cases ended in arrests without anyone being seriously hurt. “Be considerate, be kind, be patient, get there alive and safe,” Niemczyk said. The department is also reminding drivers to call a friend or use a rideshare service if they have been drinking.
