Jacksonville – Douglas “Doug” Matthew Shumway, 49, of Jacksonville, North Carolina passed away on July 14th, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Doug was born December 2nd, 1976, in Onslow County, North Carolina to Steven Shumway and Bonnie King Shumway.
Doug was an avid hunter. He loved to shoot and play Xbox with his stepson Andrew Hartsfield. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1995. He worked as a journeyman doing plumbing with his cousin Jamie Hardison of Sneads Ferry. He eventually got his Masters Plumbing License and started his own plumbing business. He later worked for Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune as a facilities maintenance plumber and pipefitter. He retired from civil service in April 2026.
He is survived by his wife Heather Shumway, stepson Andrew Hartsfield his sister Robin Fisher (Michael). Cousins, Jamie Hardison, Tony King, Josh King, Christy Baysden, Brook Audelo, Kristen Swinson, David Langley; his niece and nephew Darby and Caleb Fisher; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be Friday July 2026, at Jones Funeral Home from 5 pm to 7 pm in Jacksonville NC. Graveside services will be held on July 18th, 2026, at 2 pm at King Family Cemetery located at 609 Haws Run Rd, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
