Marlins aim for first win of their road trip in series opener against the Astros
Winless since the All-Star Break and having lost six games in a row, the Miami Marlins continue their road trip on Monday night as they begin a three-game series against the Houston Astros. On their own three-game losing skid, the Astros bats have been held in check since the Mid-Summer Classic scoring just six runs over the last three games. The Marlins will send right-hander Janson Junk (4-5, 4.57 ERA) to the mound in search of his third consecutive win, while the Astros will counter with veteran righty Ronel Blanco (3-4, 4.10 ERA) who has given up at least one home run in seven of his last eight outings.

On a three-game hit streak, Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez leads Major League Baseball with his .335 batting average and has started off July with a blistering .345 average as he continues his breakout season. Lopez, in his fifth year in the Majors and third in Miami, is four hits shy of tying his career high of 134 and is two stolen bases away from equaling his career best 20 set back in 2024. The first-time All-Star is day-to-day with a finger injury and missed Sunday’s finale with Milwaukee as a precaution.
Yordan Alvarez leads Houston in virtually every offensive category, including hits, batting average, home runs, RBIs and On Base Percentage, and comes into Monday on a six-game hit streak. Alvarez ranks third in the league with his .319 average and is second in both home runs and RBIs, having hit 30 or more homers five times in the last six seasons.
