TAMPA, Fla. (WWSB) – A Tampa woman has been arrested and charged in the April death of a 3-year-old girl, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
The investigation began on April 25 when the girl died after being taken to Brandon Regional Hospital with several injuries.
Detectives say the child’s injuries occurred while she was in the care of 29-year-old Grace Wingate of Tampa. The medical examiner later ruled her death a homicide.
After getting an arrest warrant on July 16, Wingate was taken into custody and charged with:
First-degree murder while engaged in aggravated child abuseChild neglect with great bodily harmAggravated child abuse
Wingate is being held without bond in the Hillsborough County Jail, records show.
The investigation is continuing, the sheriff’s office said.
