(WLOS) — Tropical Storm Bertha formed on Monday evening, making it the second named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
As of 8 p.m. Monday, July 20, Bertha is located about 110 miles south of Panama City, Florida, moving slowly to the WNW at 3 mph.
Bertha is expected to take a more westward track, staying close to the Northern Gulf Coast over most of the week. Tropical storm conditions are possible along the Florida Panhandle through Tuesday, July 21.
A tropical storm watch is in effect for parts of Florida westward to southeastern Louisiana, according to reporting by The Associated Press. A storm surge watch also has been posted from the mouth of the Mississippi River to the Alabama-Florida border on the Gulf Coast.
Potentially life-threatening storm surges of up to four feet could occur in portions of the Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines, the AP reported.
